happiness freakout
by Francine DuBois

It's just a game of chess.
It's not World War II. It's not as if you suddenly
Stopped the slaughter of six million Jews.
It's not as if you've even spared the life of anyone today,
Unless you count the people you could have killed but didn't,
Like me, with your driving.

So stop gloating already. It's not as if you beat Bobby Fischer
Or even a Barbie® Chess for Babies computer.
Stop kissing the soldiers and move on.
Get off the table and stop ordering drinks.
(I heard that this war's not over.)
