We Can Put a Man on the Moon (But We Can't Feed the Hungry) (1995). **** D: Mark Romanek. Cast: Trent Reznor, Billy Corgan, Courtney Love, Juliette Lewis, Eddie Vedder. Imagine a "We Are the World" for the grunge and goth movement. Sci-fi opus features loosely-knit music videos contrasting technological process (including a charming love story of a boy and his Moog) and urban blight. R, bw/c, 54 minutes. jh. [direct link]

We're Gonna Fake It After All (1979). ** D: Jonathan Hardin. Cast: Penny Marshall, Cindy Williams. Laverne and Shirley lie on their resumes to get high-powered jobs, but can they bluff their way through life? (Made for TV) G, c, 94 minutes. jh. [direct link]

While He Slept (2000). * D: Stephen Kippenberger. Cast: Tucker Carlson. Unbelievably mundane and lengthy film in which a smitten lady picks lint off her sleeping lover's sportscoat. Audiences too will likely fall asleep and have lint removed from their clothing by sprites, which is, of course, more interesting. Not rated, c, 230 minutes. jh. [direct link]

Who's My Spiritual Guide? (2001). ** D: Shelley Winters. Cast: Sandra Bullock, Jean Reno, Billy Idol (as himself), Montel Williams (as himself), and Sylvia Browne (as herself). A misfired email asking for spiritual guidance explodes into an international fiasco. This is the stuff of which urban legends are made: overwrought storylines, unbelievable situations, and "average people." PG, c, 99 minutes. jh. [direct link]
